Welcome from the Executive Headteacher
Hello and welcome to Cookham, Maidenhead and The Lawns Nursery School Federation website.
In May 2011 we formed our Federation cementing the already strong relationships from the 3 Nursery Schools in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. The three Nursery Schools retain their individual characteristics and uniqueness that serve their local communities but are led by Executive Headteacher - Sarah Cottle and one Governing Body. The benefits resulting from federating include the sharing of professional expertise between staff, increased staff motivation, research into the best Early Years practice, financial savings, sharing of resources and increased influence on local authority directives pertaining to Early Years education.
Our vison in creating our Federation was to provide all our children outstanding education and to establish a centre of Early Years excellence within our local authority that provides training and support for other providers (Foundation Stage 1 and Foundation Stage 2/Reception classes in local schools, pre-schools and childminders).
This is reflected in our Federation motto:
“Discover, Grow and Learn”
This is our vision for all of our communities – the children, their families, the staff, the Governing Body and the settings we support.
Our children come from a range of backgrounds, diverse cultures and experiences, and we value their individuality and their specific interests. Our ethos is to tune into the needs and interests of our children and families providing a relevant and practical play based curriculum that is designed to develop the children’s learning in all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. We want the children to be curious, explore their environment, share their ideas and discoveries, solve problems, ask questions, co-operate and negotiate, develop resilience and most importantly be enthusiastic learners who enjoy making connections between life experiences. We firmly believe that these skills will provide children with the tools to succeed in their subsequent educational journey.
We are very fortunate to work with three amazing teams of very experienced Early Years practitioners. All schools were judged as ‘OUTSTANDING’ in their last inspection however we appreciate that no two cohorts of children are the same and that we rely heavily on developing excellent partnerships with the children’s first educators – the parents and carers who know them best to ensure that each and every child reaches their potential in our environments.
In March 2013 we were very proud to gain National Teaching School status and are now part of a Teaching School HUB. Please click here to find out more about Foundations for Learning.
