SEND

Inclusive Practice

The Cookham, Maidenhead and The Lawns Nursery School Federation share a vision that respects each child’s right to be viewed as an independent and autonomous individual with a fundamental right to an inclusive education. We believe that all children and young people have the right to be included in local services, so that they can reach their potential and as such are committed to RBWM/AFC Inclusion Charter (see below)

Children of any level of need are welcome and families are invited to visit to discuss individual needs with our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities co-ordinator (SENCo). Our inclusive provision offers children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) a range of options to meet their specific support needs. We always try to find a way to engage and support children and families as best we can. Children with SEND are supported by their Key Person, the SENCo, the whole staff team and where appropriate, external professionals and agencies. All children in our provision have individual planning and documentation that reflects their personal interests and curiosities. Children with SEND also have a specific action plan (play plan), which uses a small step approach to support their learning. This is reviewed on a regular basis with parents. Occasionally children have greater needs and may need some additional support throughout their early education.

If your child already has a diagnosed special need or disability or if you are concerned about their development, please let us know as soon as possible. This enables us to have strategies/support in place for when your child starts at Nursery School. Our Local Offer SEND Information Report below has more information, and you are most welcome to arrange to meet our SENCo to discuss your child’s particular needs in detail. Our SENCo is Sacha Patrick and you can contact her by emailing maidenheadnursery@eyfed.org.uk

For further information on SEND support please see 'A Collective Responsibility to meet the needs of pupils with SEND in RBWM'. The Nursery Federation follows the inclusive ethos of this document however due to the age of our children many of the targeted strategies/interventions are adapted to their developmental stage.
